#5 - Draft Cover Art/Thumbnail

I was continuing down the road of rough drawings, and I came across photos of some of the military cemeteries. They are immaculately maintained, and the markers are uniform in shape and color. It was fascinating to read about how people leave different items atop the grave depending on their relationship to the fallen soldier.

At Arlington, the markers are a standard, rounded-top tombstone.  The picture I drew is more along the lines of the Normandy American Cemetery at Omaha Beach. It features 9,387 white crosses; the photos are very striking.

I'm a brand new at photo editing, so I downloaded gimp and tooled around. I figured out how to make and move layers. I made the two text boxes, and imported the drawing. I sized it to fit the width of the card.

I chose the basic font I'll use on all cards for my first prototype, and have carried that over for the title text.

The black border is a text box from pages, since I couldn't figure out how to draw a square!

As far as the illustration goes, I originally thought to just use a grid of crosses. I landed on taking the cross image and making it less defined and more distorted  as the rows go on. To me it evokes the overarching theme of memory loss/being lost. The repeating white crosses would have the same effect, but I thought it would imply that it is about military graves.

All that said, I'm open to suggestions!

I changed the subtitle to be more accurate:
