Post 1 - The Second Time

My first draft of this game is gone. Probably recycled.

I made this game late last year. I thought about it for a long time, and put it all on paper over the course of 2-3 days. Then I saw that it wouldn't work with a messy, hand drawn version, so I made it digitally. Then I printed it, played it once, then I put that second draft of it in the trunk of my car. A rubber-banded stack of these bad boys:

After wrapping my head around the creation of the Godcaste all those years ago, plotting out the color representation/patterns was much easier to do.

What I learned from the first/second draft:

The first draft had the numbers in a circle, rather than the more diamond/square shape seen above. It was difficult to cover the numbers in the right way when they weren't spaced evenly or drawn to the right size, so it was clear that digital, with the help of some alignment tools, were needed.

I also learned that the diamond shape made placement much easier. From this, I was able to determine the way a card can be played on, and there are two 'pattern' options to play, in the four directions of the card.

One covers a 'cardinal' clock number, and the two minor ones to each side (right). The other covers two cardinal nodes, and the two between (left).

:

The way this combination works, is that you can't play more than twice on a single card. It can mean two of the same pattern or one of each.

You might make the first play, seeing it as the best option in the moment, only to find it restricted your second play on the card.

I also established that cards cannot overlap other cards, aside from the one you are playing on.

Great decisions for a first time around!
